Berkeley College men's basketball team races past Davis College 89-68 behind Keenan Langston's 31 points

The Berkeley College men's basketball team won its second consecutive game - and third in its last four tries - by defeating the Falcons of Davis College by a score of 89-68 this afternoon in a contest played at the Borough of Manhattan Community College. With the victory, the Knights upped their mark to 3-2 on the 2014-2015 campaign, while Davis slid to 8-4.

All three of Berkeley's wins this season have been of the blowout variety, but Davis made the Knights sweat in the early stages of the game. After Berkeley took a 7-2 lead thanks to a three-point basket by Keenan Langston, a converted layup by Kenton Chan-Man, and a layup by Langston, the Falcons put together a 9-3 run that was capped by a successful three-point attempt by Moni Anderson, as Davis College jumped ahead by a score of 11-10.

That Falcons advantage would be short lived, however, as the Knights regained the lead thanks to a made layup by first-year sensation Messiah Merritt. Berkeley College would run off 13 more consecutive points from there, and that 15-0 run put the Knights ahead commandingly 25-11. Berkeley would eventually go up by as many as 20 points before taking a 46-29 edge into the locker room at halftime.

The Knights started the second session out-scoring Davis College 12-2 to take their biggest lead of the game - a 26 point lead (58-32) with 15:25 to play. Davis College spent the ensuing 8:26 chipping away, eventually closing the gap to 13 (69-56) with just under seven minuteS remaining. Berkeley's defense would stymie Davis from there though, as the Knights would only allow two more Falcons field goals the remainder of the afternoon. Berkeley would eventually hold on for the impressive 21-point win.

In the victory for the Knights, veteran Keenan Langston had his best game of the season, connecting on 12 of his 24 attempts from the floor (including four of his 10 launches from downtown) to finish with a game-high 31 points. He also added five rebounds and three steals. Merritt scored 17 points in 28 minutes off of the bench (he now has at least 17 points scored in all five of the Knights' contests this season), and Chan-Man contributed with 11 points and three steals.

Davis College was paced by Justin Gardiner in a losing cause, as he posted a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. He also blocked two shots. Trey Kelly added 12 points, 10 rebounds, three steals, and two assists, and Moni Anderson and Mark Riches scored 13 and 12 points off of the bench, respectively.

The story of the game was Berkeley College taking advantage of Davis' turnovers, as the Knights turned 36 Falcons miscues into 33 points. On the flip side, Berkeley only committed 18 turnovers for the afternoon. The Knights held a 22-8 edge in fastbreak points, and Berkeley dished 12 assists to Davis' 10. The Falcons did out-rebound the Knights 44-39.

The Knights will play their first Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest this Monday evening, as Berkeley will travel to Aviator in Brooklyn, NY to battle King's College. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 8:30pm.
