HVIAC Tournament Primer: Men's basketball team shoots for whopping 10th Regional crown; Women's basketball team looks to make program history this weekend

The Berkeley College men's and women's basketball teams are getting set for a big weekend, as both programs will compete in the 2017-2018 Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournaments. Following their regular season finales against Vaughn College this Wednesday, both teams will set their sights on winning Regional championships.

On the men's side, the Knights will be aiming to win their fourth consecutive HVIAC crown – and 10th overall as a program. Berkeley is currently riding a 19-game winning streak – and a 22-1 overall record – including a mark of 7-0 in Regional competition. The Knights – who are the tournament's No. 1 seed – will take on the No. 4 seed – the Vaughn College Warriors.

The Knights and Warriors have some recent tournament history, with the two teams playing in the championship game of the playoff back during the 2015-2016 season. Berkeley College trailed 27-14 in the first nine minutes of that game, before storming back and eventually recording a 90-70 victory. This season, the two teams will meet in the semifinal round, with a trip to the championship at stake.

News and Notes: Berkeley College is only team in this year's tournament that has ever won a conference title.

The Knights have 9 HVIAC crowns, winning in 2006, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017

On the women's side, the Knights will be looking to make some history, as they'll aim to win their first-ever Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title. Berkeley will enter this year's tournament as the No. 3 seed. They'll take on the No. 2 seed – the Blue Angels of the College of New Rochelle – on Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm.

Berkeley College will need to exorcise some demons if it is to advance to this year's championship game, as the Knights have not beaten New Rochelle since January 14, 2014. Since then, Berkeley has lost four straight games against the Blue Angels.
