Knights begin HVIAC play with dominant 88-45 victory over Vaughn
The Berkeley College men's basketball team continued its recent tear on Tuesday evening, blowing out the Warriors of Vaughn College by a score of 88-45 in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest. The game took place at the Nat Holman Gymnasium on the campus of the City College of New York. With the victory, the Knights improved to 3-4 on the year (1-0 HVIAC), while the struggling Warriors dipped to 5-9 (0-2 HVIAC).
 
Pacing Berkeley in its victory was standout Tahshon Moore, as he logged all 40 minutes, posting game-highs of 22 points (7-15 FG, 6-8 FT), 12 rebounds, seven assists, and five steals. Karranja Bright nailed 10 of his 20 attempts from the floor, finalizing his evening with 21 points, 10 boards, a game-high four swatted shots, and Marc Combs added 18 points, eight caroms, and four steals. Finally, it was Jihadu Brunner contributing 12 points, 12 rebounds, four dimes, three blocks, and two steals.
 
DeAnthony Price led the way for the visitors, as he scored a team-high 13 points while grabbing four rebounds and adding two assists. Beandre Wafer nailed five of his eight attempts from the floor, finishing with 10 points, a team-high eight rebounds, three assists, and a steal. Finally, it was Jaime Sanchez pulling down seven boards.
 
Vaughn College held the lead for a brief time in the opening seconds, as price drained a three point basket just seven ticks in to give his team a 3-0 edge. From there, it was all Berkeley. The Knights ran off nine consecutive points over the ensuing 2:17 to jump ahead 9-3. 
 
Later in the half, with 7:38 remaining in the session, a Combs Trifecta gave the Knights a double digit lead for the first time, as Berkeley went ahead 29-17. The Knights held a commanding 41-23 edge with 4:20 to go in the stanza, before closing out the period on a 14-2 run to grab a 55-25 advantage as the teams entered the locker room at halftime.
 
In the second half, Berkeley College kept plenty of distance between itself and the visitors, as the Knights never led by any less than 26 points for the entirety of the session. Berkeley's defense allowed just nine field goals and 20 Warrior points over the final 20 minutes, and the Knights' 43 point margin of victory was its biggest lead of the evening.
 
It was another status quo victory for Berkeley College over Vaughn, as the Knights have now defeated Vaughn College 10 consecutive times, and haven't lost to the Warriors since the semifinals for the 2013-2014 HVIAC Men's Basketball Tournament. 
 
Berkeley connected on 45.1 percent of its attempts from the floor (37-82), while holding Vaughn to a 27.8 conversion rate (20-72). The Knights held a modest 54-47 edge on the glass, while also only turning the ball over 13 times, while forcing 25 mistakes for the visitors. The Knights tallied 17 assists to Vaughn's 10, while also netting 22 points off turnovers, compared to seven for the Warriors.
 
The Knights will look to make it four consecutive victories on Saturday afternoon, as Berkeley will host Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse at CCNY's Nat Holman Gymnasium. Start-time for the game is scheduled for 3:00pm.
