Berkeley College uses 52.6 percent shooting, 24 steals to dominate Vaughn in season opener

Berkeley College's men's basketball team began its 2023-2024 with a convincing victory on Friday evening, dominating the Phoenix of Vaughn College by a score of 120-47. The game took place at the Elmcor Recreation Center in Corona, NY. Dating back to last season, the Knights have now won 12 of their past 14 contests.

Leading the way for Berkeley in its impressive opening night performance was Kevon Leary, as he scored 19 points while snatching seven rebounds, dishing two assists, and tallying two steals in 20 minutes off the bench. Brian Fajardo added 15 points (6-7 FG) to go along with four boards, two assists, and a pair of steals, and Brandon Speller and Kenny Pitt scored 11 points apiece. In addition, Ronald Ridgeway's 12 rebounds led all Berkeley players.

For the evening, Berkeley connected on 52.6 percent of its attempts from the floor (51-97), while also connecting on nine of its 13 shots from the free throw line (69.2 percent). The aggressive Knights snatched a whopping 64 rebounds, while also piling 24 steals. Berkeley also shared the ball very well, registering 22 assists.

The Knights will look to make it two consecutive victories to start the 2023-2024 season next Saturday, as the team will welcome Vermont State University Randolph to CCNY's Nat Holman Gymnasium. Start-time is scheduled for 3:00pm.
