Knights overwhelmed by Bryant & Stratton (Buffalo) 107-93 on Saturday evening

The Berkeley College men's basketball team lost its second consecutive game this past Saturday, falling to the Bobcats of Bryant & Stratton (Buffalo) by a score of 107-93. The game took place at the Buffalo State Sports Arena in Buffalo, NY. With the defeat, the Knights dipped to a mark of 3-4 on the 2023-2024 campaign, while the Bobcats improved to a record of 5-3.

Despite the loss for Berkeley, veteran Kenneth Hines led the way for the Knights, connecting on seven of his 11 attempts from the floor and scoring a team-high 15 points. Jihadu Brunner scored 12 points while snatching five rebounds in 22 minutes off of the bench. Brandon Speller finalized his evening with 10 points, six rebounds, and four assists, and it was Josiah Mitchener adding 10 points, four boards, and two dimes.

Pacing the Bobcats was Armonee Felder, as he posted game-highs of 32 points and 10 assists. He also snatched five rebounds, as well. Victor Caldwell scored 19 points while dishing four assists. Kalon Kimble connected on eight of his 13 attempts from the floor, posting a double-double with 17 points, 15 rebounds, two assists, and two steals, and Deric Jackson added 17 points, three rebounds, and three steals. Finally, it was Nahshon Sylvester putting together a tremendous all-around game, scoring 10 points, pulling down nine rebounds, dishing eight assists, and tallying a game-best six assists.

Things looked promising for Berkeley in the opening half, as the Knights held a 15-point lead at two different junctures of the period. The latter of those 15-point advantages for Berkeley was a 32-17 edge with 9:16 left in the half. The Bobcats finished the half on a surge, outscoring Berkeley 32-19 from there to pull to within two, 51-49, as the curtain dropped on the first half.

In the second half, with the game tied at 55 apiece and just over 17 minutes remaining, Bryant & Stratton (Buffalo) took the lead for good on a converted layup by Felder. The Bobcats gradually built their lead from there, going up by as many as 26 points (101-75) before going on to win the game by 14.

Both teams shot well from the floor, with Bryant & Stratton (Buffalo) converting on 50 percent of their attempts (40-80), and the Knights draining 43.8 percent of theirs (32-73). The Bobcats held a 49-41 edge in the rebounding category, while also piling 29 assists to Berkeley's 17. Bryant & Stratton Buffalo scored 34 points off the Knights' miscues, while Berkeley netted 23 points off the Bobcats' mistakes. Bryant & Stratton (Buffalo) tallied 15 steals, while Berkeley had 14, and the teams had 23 turnovers apiece.

Berkeley will look to bounce back on Wednesday evening, as the Knights will stay on the road and battle Bryant and Stratton (Rochester). Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 8:00pm.
