Knights win for seventh time in eight tries, dominating Centurions, 96-81

The Berkeley College men's basketball team won for the seventh time in eight tries on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Centurions of Bucks County Community College by a score of 96-81. The contest took place at the City College of New York's Nat Holman Gymnasium in upper Manhattan. With the victory, the Knights improved to a mark off 11-8 on the season, while the Centurions dipped to 8-17.

In the victory for the Knights, Berkeley was paced by standout Brandon Speller, as he scored a game-high 23 points to go along with five rebounds and a pair of assists. Veteran Karanja Bright scored 19 points while snatching six rebounds and dropping two dimes, and Kenneth Hines registered a double-double, netting 17 points, pulling down a game-high 11 boards, dishing four assists, and tallying two steals. Finally, it was Julio Wallace finishing with 10 points.

Despite the loss for Bucks County Community College, Luis Rodriguez posted a double-double, registering team-highs of 20 points and 10 rebounds. Jaden Fogg netted 19 points while snatching eight boards and adding a pair of assists, and Jaquis Heath finished with 15 points, four assists, and three rebounds.

The Knights held a 47-32 lead at halftime and maintained that lead, as both Berkeley College and Bucks County Community College scored 49 points apiece in the second half.

Berkeley College was the more efficient team shooting the basketball, as the Knights connected on 34 of their 68 attempts from the floor (50 percent), while the Centurions earned a 40 percent conversion rate (28-70). The Knights held a slim 40-37 edge on the glass, while the Centurions held a 10-8 lead in steals. Both teams recorded 22 assists, and Bucks County Community College won the turnover battle, committing 18 miscues, while Berkeley had 21.

Berkeley will look to keep things rolling next Saturday, as the Knights will take on SUNY-ESF in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest. Start-time is scheduled for 2:00pm.
