New York men's soccer team unable to thwart Briarcliffe's offensive onslaught as Bulldogs pull away from Knights, 8-1

The Berkeley College New York men's soccer team dropped its third consecutive game on Wednesday evening, falling to the Bulldogs of Briarcliffe College by a score of 8-1 at Aviator Field in Brooklyn, NY. The Bulldogs improved to 5-1 on the season with the victory, while the Knights slipped to 4-5.

On what was a cold, misty evening at Aviator Field, Briarcliffe College jumped out ahead in the early stages of the game and never looked back. The Bulldogs' Giancarlo Luna got the scoring started in the ninth minute (8:35). After a Berkeley College turnover, Luna dribbled in and blasted a shot past Knights netminder Renzo Loaiza to give his team a 1-0 lead. Exactly two and a half minutes later - at the 11:05 mark - Luna struck again - tapping in a pass from Martin Baudo to give Briarcliffe a two-goal advantage.

The Knights cut the Bulldogs lead in half at the 18:43 mark when Harold Akawaor received a pass from Yannick Mabuye and curled in a shot in the left corner. At that point, Berkeley College found itself down just a goal. Briarcliffe got that goal back a little more than three minutes later when William Benitez scored (at 22:00 - assisted by Baudo) to push the Bulldogs' edge back to two goals at 3-1. Briarcliffe's Edison Guayllasaca and Kyle Campbell would each add a tally later in the session, and the Bulldogs held a comfortable 5-1 lead as the teams broke for halftime.

In the second session, it was the Kyle Campbell show for Briarcliffe. After the standout scored a goal late in the first half (at 39:03), he dominated the final 45 minutes of play as he added three more goals (at 51:27, 65:23, and 79:58, respectively) to help his team run away from the Knights. Juan Murillo, Luna, and Baudo picked up an assist each on those three tallies.

The Bulldogs held a 21-10 advantage in the shot category, while also taking eight corner kicks to Berkeley's one. Briarcliffe committed 20 fouls on the evening compared to 13 for the Knights.

Berkeley College will look to snap its three-game skid on Saturday afternoon, as the Knights will play host to SUNY Canton at the College of Staten Island. Start time for that contest in Willowbrook is scheduled for 2:30pm.
