UMFK notches three goals in opening 25 minutes, never looks back in 7-0 victory over New York men's soccer team

The Berkeley College New York men's soccer team dropped a game to the University of Maine Fort Kent by a score of 7-0 at Randall's Island on Saturday morning. With the victory, the Bengals kept their undefeated streak in tact, as they improved to a staggering mark of 14-0 on the 2014 campaign, while the struggling Knights fell to a mark of 5-8 on the year after beginning the season 4-1.

In the first half, UMFK's Rossie Downie wasted no time putting the Bengals out in front, as he netted a goal just 2:08 into the contest to give his team an early 1-0 edge. Stefan Petricevic and Ben Kluvers collected assists on the score. A little under six minutes later (at 7:59), Kluvers would blast a ball into the net (off a pass from Petricevic) to increase his team's advantage to 2-0. Scores by Kluvers (at 11:35) and Daniel Blackwood (from Wilfried Monthe and Downie at 24:12) put UMFK up 4-0 as the teams broke for halftime.

The second stanza saw the Bengals refuse to let up, scoring three goals in the period to account for the 7-0 final score. UMFK's second half tallies included Kluver's third goal of the game at 49:41, another score by Petricevic at 56:25, and the last by James William (from Justin Soontiens) at 76:15.

Bengals netminders Ahkeim Forbes and Jamie Cleland combined for a shutout, as each played a half in this one, but neither had to stop a shot on the morning.

UMFK out-shot Berkeley by a count of 18-1, and the Bengals had four corner kicks to the Knights' one. UMFK was whistled for 10 fouls on the morning, while Berkeley committed three.

The Knights will return to action on Wednesday evening as Berkeley will battle Baruch College at Randall's Island. Start-time is scheduled for 6:00pm.
