Berkeley College New York men's soccer team suffers 5-2 defeat to Yeshiva University in season finale

The Berkeley College New York men's soccer team finalized its 2014 season on Tuesday evening, falling to the Maccabees of Yeshiva University by a score of 5-2 in a game played on the campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, NJ. With the victory, Yeshiva upped its mark to 9-7-1 on the year, while the Knights finished their 2014 campaign with a mark of 5-12-2.

Things looked promising for Berkeley College early, as the Knights took a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute when Harold Akawor received a long pass to the near side from Mamadou Bah and buried the ball into the net. A little over nine minutes later, Yeshiva University's Aaron Braun found the back of the net (at 18:27, from Daniel Amar) to even the game at a goal apiece.

The Maccabees would push ahead in the 26th minute (at 25:11) when Avi Baron received a cross from teammate Leon Aboudi and tapped the ball past Knights netminder Matthias Valle to put Yeshiva up 2-1. Neither team would net another goal for the remainder of the half, as the Maccabees held a one-goal advantage as the teams broke for halftime.

In the second session, Yeshiva University's offense broke out, as the Maccabees got goals from Ben Itamar David (at 53:40), Amar (at 57:28), and David again (79:03) to open up a commanding 5-1 lead with just under 11 minutes to play in the game. Berkeley College would score one more goal in the 88th minute when Akawor would notch his second tally of the contest off a pass from Johan Hildingsson to make the score 5-2 in favor of Yeshiva. The Maccabees would eventually hold on for that three goal triumph.

Maor Feinstein picked up the victory in net for Yeshiva University, playing 90 minutes and making three saves while allowing the two goals. Mathias Valle took the loss for the Knights, as he logged 54:35 and allowed three goals while making six saves. Renzo Loaiza came on in relief and played 35:25 and allowed two goals while making one save.

The Maccabees held a 22-9 edge in the shots category, and Yeshiva University had seven corner kicks on the evening compared to none for Berkeley College.
