Rowan University notches five goals in first half to run away from New Jersey men's soccer team, 6-0 in Glassboro, NJ

The Berkeley College New Jersey men's soccer team lost its fifth consecutive contest on Wednesday afternoon, falling to the Profs of Rowan University by a score of 6-0 in a game played at Rowan's Soccer Field in Glassboro, NJ. With the loss, the Knights dipped to 1-7 on the season, while the Profs improved their record to 7-1.

At the 9:02 mark of the first half, Rowan University took the lead when Shane Kohler's shot was saved by Berkeley netminder Nicholas Araujo and then tapped home by Jake Conners. Later, it was Kohler (at 20:46) and Doherty (at 29:06) each converting corner kicks to increase the Profs' advantage to three goals at 3-0. Derick Carpio scored Rowan's fourth goal when he redirected Enzo Scala's corner kick into the net with 1:31 to play in the opening session. 22 seconds later, Kevin Pereira notched a goal to put the Profs up 5-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Rowan University would add one more goal to put an exclamation point on its victory when Pereira touched the ball past Berkeley's Elvis Carino and to the foot of Doherty who buried the ball into the net. Following the loss, Head Coach Bruno Ferreira praised Rowan University's balanced attack.

"The Profs can hurt you in many different ways, and tonight, they did exactly that," Ferreira said. They did a good job of applying pressure and creating opportunities for themselves, and they cashed in on those opportunities. We'll have three days of rest now before giving it a shot against King's College on Sunday."

Rowan University dominated the shots category, out-shooting Berkeley by a margin of 29-3. The Profs had six corner kick chances compared to two for the Knights.

In a losing effort for Berkeley, Elvis Carino logged 45 minutes of action, allowing just one goal while stopping four shots.

The Knights will return to action on Sunday afternoon, as Berkeley will travel to Randall's Island to battle the Lions of Kings College. The game will start at 3:00pm, and will take place on Field No. 81.
