John Grant's five goals propel New Jersey men's soccer team to 9-0 victory over The King's College on Sunday afternoon

The Berkeley College New Jersey men's soccer team halted their five-match losing skid on Sunday afternoon, thrashing the Lions of The King's College by a score of 9-0 on field No. 81 at Randall's Island. With the victory, the Knights are now 2-7 on the 2015 campaign, while King's College fell to 0-8 on the year.

It was a day that belonged to Berkeley College's John Grant, as the first-year Knight netted five goals – including all four of Berkeley's tallies in the opening session. After scoring an unassisted goal at the 10:07 mark to put the Knights up 1-0, Grant headed-in a pass from Rodrigo Esquivel at 14:40 to put his team up by a pair of goals. The freshman out of Old Bridge High School also netted goals at 16:32 (unassisted) and 23:43 (from Juan Faciolince), giving Berkeley a commanding 4-0 advantage. That 4-0 score would remain unchanged for the rest of the session.

In the second half, Berkeley got goals from five different players, including Kevin Mariscal, Esquivel, Grant, Mark LoBue, and Ali Yildirim to put away the Lions. Following the victory, Berkeley College Head Coach Bruno Ferreira gave his thoughts.

"We haven't been pleased with our results this season, so it was good to see us break through today," Ferreira said. "A victory like this can certainly be a confidence-booster, and hopefully we'll be able to string some wins together and build positive momentum as we head into the stretch run of this season."

Roselle, NJ product Arturo Botero recorded a shutout for the Knights in net, as the goalkeeper recorded four saves on the afternoon.

The Knights dominated the shots category, recording 30 on the day while allowing just five for the Lions. Berkeley had 11 corner kick opportunities on the day compared to just one for The King's College, and both squads were whistled for seven off-sides.

Berkeley College will return to action on Wednesday, as the Knights will travel to Hackettstown, NJ to battle Centenary College at J.E. Reeves Jr. Field. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 3:00pm.
