Quality team effort culminates in 4-0 victory for New Jersey men's soccer over Central Penn on Sunday afternoon

The Berkeley College New Jersey men's soccer team snapped its two-match losing streak on Sunday afternoon, turning back Central Penn by a score of 4-0 in Enola, PA. With the victory, Berkeley improved to a record of 4-12 on the 2015 season, while Central Penn dipped to 1-8 on the year.

After both teams battled for 17 scoreless minutes, Berkeley got on the scoreboard first when Matias Palma collected a beautiful cross pass from Brandon Bras and buried the ball into the back of the net to give his team a 1-0 lead. A pair of unassisted tallies by Brandon Bannout (at 30:00 and 33:00) put Berkeley up 3-0, an advantage the Knights would hold as the opening session came to a close.

In the second half, Ali Yildirim would take advantage of a breakaway opportunity, as he netted a goal to increase his team's lead to 4-0 at the 59 minute mark. From there, stifling defense from Berkeley College yielded very few opportunities for Central Penn, as the Knights held on four a 4-0 victory.

Berkeley netminders Arturo Botero and Elvis Carino combined for a shutout, with both individuals logging 45 minutes of action and not facing a shot on goal. Following the victory, Head Coach Bruno Ferreira gave his thoughts on his team's win.

"Obviously, it's been a very challenging season for us, so it was a positive for us to come here and pick up a win today," Ferreira said. We've worked hard and the effort has been there, and we'll look to close out this season on a winning note on Wednesday."

Berkeley College dominated in the shots category, out-shooting Central Penn 30-5. The Knights also held an 8-2 edge in corner kick chances, and Central Penn committed 16 fouls on the afternoon compared to eight for Berkeley.

Despite the loss for Central Penn, Jesse Berger made 15 saves.

The Knights will close out their 2015 season on Wednesday afternoon, as Berkeley will travel to Lancaster, PA to take on Lancaster Bible. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 3:30pm.
