New Jersey men's soccer team uses balanced effort to silence Christendom, 5-2, for second consecutive victory

The Berkeley College New Jersey men's soccer team won its second game in as many days on Sunday afternoon, turning back the Crusaders of Christendom College by a score of 5-2 in Front Royal, Virginia. With the victory, the Knights are now 2-1 on the 2016 campaign, while the Crusaders dipped to a mark of 2-2.

After the teams played 21 scoreless minutes, the Knights got on the scoreboard at the 21:02 mark when Eryk Rachwal received a nifty pass from Nathan Malka before buying the ball into the net to give his team a 1-0 lead. Later in the session – Matthew Neto scored a goal (at 33:54) to increase Berkeley College's edge to 2-0. Patryk Praszek picked up an assist on that goal. Neither team would hit the back of the net over the final 11:06 of the period, as the Knights led 2-0 at the break.

In the early stages of the second half, Christendom would slice the Knights' lead in half when Stephen Foeckler would score an unassisted goal at 47:42 to pull the Crusaders to within one at 2-1. Berkeley wouldn't wait long to get that goal back, though, as Calvin Carbajal would collect a pass from Anthony Hernandez before depositing the ball into the net to put the Knights up 3-1.

Still, Christendom College hung tough. At the 54:36 mark, the Crusaders' James Foeckler would score to pull his team to within one goal at 3-2. The Knights would own the remainder of the game, though, as Berkeley would score two insurance goals one by Edgar Jurado (from Lawrence Gongora) and another by Neto (from Jurado) at the 61:21 and 71:02 marks, respectively, to put the match away.

It was a prototypical balanced effort by the Knights, as Berkeley College netted five goals on just 18 shots, while allowing just five total shots for the opposition for the contest.

The Knights will look to make it three consecutive victories when they travel to Hazleton, PA on Tuesday afternoon to take on Penn State Hazleton. Start-time for that match is scheduled for 4:00pm.
