New York men's soccer team's defense struggles in 9-2 defeat on Tuesday afternoon at the hands of Marywood University

The Berkeley College New York men's soccer team lost its second consecutive match on Tuesday afternoon, falling to the Pacers of Marywood University by a score of 9-2 in a contest played in Scranton, PA. With the loss, the Knights dipped to 1-3 on the 2016 campaign, while the Pacers improved their mark on the year to 2-2.

Things looked promising for the Knights early on, as Berkeley struck first as standout Osondu Esonwune collected a pass from Emmanuel Polo-Adusei and found himself on a breakaway. He motored towards the net and blasted a ball past Marywood University goalkeeper Tommy McGlennon to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. Just six minutes later, offensive powerhouse Ali Dawha took an open lane to the middle of the box and scored to give Berkeley College a 2-0 advantage.

The two goal lead for the Knights was short-lived, however. The Pacers' Marc-Daniel Montinard got his team on the board just 45 seconds later, as he attempted consecutive headers, with the second one finding the net to cut his team's deficit in half. Later – in the 23rd minute – Marywood University would knot the game at two goals apiece when Daniel Gallagher headed a ball into the right corner of the goal. Montinard picked up an assist on the score.

Gallagher put the Pacers in front by a score of 3-2 in the 27th minute. Dylan McMahon passed to a wide-open Gallagher on the right flank. Gallagher then found the left side of the net from about 15 yards out to give his team the lead for good. Over the remaining 60 minutes of the match, Marywood University would out-score the Knight 6-0 to account for the 9-2 final score.

Zach Oster, Chris Reynolds, Cody Gangware and McMahon each tallied a goal for the Pacers. Oster and Reynolds scored their goals within 35 seconds of each other in the 37th and 38th minutes, respectively.

Marywood dominated ball possession throughout the afternoon, with the Pacers attempting 31 shots compared to just six for the Knights. The teams had one corner kick apiece.

Berkeley College will return to action on Saturday afternoon, as the Knights will take on Davis College in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest. Start-time for that match is scheduled for 1:00pm.
