New Jersey men's soccer team loses for first time since season opener as Moravian College turns back Knights 5-0 in Bethlehem, PA

The Berkeley College New Jersey men's soccer team had its six-game winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Greyhounds of Moravian College by a score of 5-0 in a contest played at John Makuvek Field in Bethlehem, PA. With the loss, the Knights are now 6-2 on the 2016 campaign, while Moravian College improved to a mark of 4-1 on the year.

The teams played 21 minutes of scoreless soccer before the Greyhounds finally broke through for the contest's first goal. Moravian College's Jack Dugan tapped in a crossing pass from teammate Rocky Fatuova in the 22nd minute to give his team a 1-0 lead. Just under nine minutes later – at 30:49 - Connor Phillips pushed the Greyhounds' advantage to two when he headed-in a ball off a long throw-in pass from Ron Jones. At that point, Moravian College led 2-0 – an advantage it would take into the locker room at halftime.

In the second stanza, the Greyhounds would gradually build their advantage, and eventually put the game way. Phillips netted his second goal of the contest just 1:54 into the second stanza (it was an unassisted tally) on a penalty kick to give his team a 3-0 advantage.

Later – in the 64th minute – Phillips would send a short cross pass to Kenny Fellows who would tap the ball into the net to push his squad's edge to 4-0. At 77:45 – Moravian's Hunter Ackerson would round out the scoring by heading in a ball off of a beautiful cross pass from Dylan Evande.

The Greyhounds dominated the game offensively, out-shooting the Knights by a count of 26-7. The teams had five corner kicks apiece, and both clubs also committed 19 fouls apiece.

Berkeley College will look to bounce back in six days when the Knights resume their season on Saturday, September 24 by traveling to Center Valley, PA to take on DeSales University. Start-time for that match is scheduled for 3:30pm.
