New York men's soccer team registers just four shots in 5-0 loss to SUNY Delhi on Saturday afternoon

The Berkeley College New York men's soccer team had a tough day on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Broncos of SUNY Delhi by a score of 5-0 in a match played in Delhi, NY. With the loss, the Knights are now 2-5 on the season, while the Broncos improved their mark on the 2016 campaign to 7-1.

After 32 minutes of scoreless soccer, SUNY Delhi broke through for the contest's first goal when Joseph Vazquez received a cross pass from Mathew Cassidy before heading the ball into the net to give his team a 1-0 advantage. That would be the lone goal of the opening session, and the Broncos took that slim lead into the locker room at halftime.

In the early stages of the second stanza, SUNY Delhi would break the game open. Two minutes into the half, Joseph O'Halloran collected a pass from Simba Mafundikwa and blasted a ball into the net from 18 yards out to push his team's advantage to 2-0. Two minutes later, Joffre Portilla notched an unassisted goal to make it 3-0 in favor of the Broncos.

SUNY Delhi's balanced attack featured a defense that didn't allow the Knights' offense to establish a rhythm, and the Broncos' offense would light up the scoreboard two more times – once on an O'Halloran goal (his second tally of the match – this one from Christian Quinde) at the 60 minute mark, and another from Myles Ofri (from Jacob Zinkievich) with seven minutes remaining in the contest.

SUNY Delhi netminder Ryan Hennessy stopped three shots in recording a shutout, while Knights goalkeeper Osvin Videz Vasquez made six saves in a losing effort.

The Broncos held a 19-4 edge in the shots department, while also getting eight corner kick opportunities compared to two for the Knights.

Berkeley College will look to bounce back on Monday evening as the Knights take to the road to battle SUNY Maritime. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 7:30pm.
