Osondu Esonwune, Anthony Argueta earn Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors

The Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners for the period of Monday evening, September 26 through Sunday, October 2, and Berkeley College was well represented. For men's soccer, Berkeley College New York's Osondu Esonwune was tabbed as one of the Co-Players of the Week, while men's cross country's Anthony Argueta earned Runner of the Week recognition.

Esonwune had a tremendous individual effort back on Saturday, October 1 in the Knights' 6-1 league victory over Culinary. The sophomore registered a natural hat trick, scoring the match's first three goals finishing with four goals and an assist. The two-time Player of the Week also recorded an assist the Knights' road game at Maritime back on September 26. Following the announcement, Head Coach Stavros Zomopoulos had this to say about Esonwune:

"Osondu is extremely passionate about the game of soccer, and it definitely shows when he is on the pitch," Zomopoulos said. "He has been one of our primary contributors this season, and I'm looking forward to seeing him close out this 2016 campaign in strong fashion."

Berkeley College's New York men's soccer team will be returning to action on Saturday, October 8, as the team will travel to Syracuse, NY to battle SUNY-ESF in another Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match. Start-time for the contest is scheduled for 3:00pm.

Men's cross country standout Anthony Argueta secured a top-10 finish at the Mount Saint Mary Invitational back on Saturday, October 1, and was also the highest-placing HVIAC harrier in the event. Covering the 8K course in 29:03, the freshman finished in 10th overall. Following the announcement of Argueta earning Runner of the Week honors, Head Coach Adam Rosen gave his thoughts.

"Anthony not only has put forth some outstanding performances for this team, but he's also led by example and encouraged the other runners to give their all, and that says plenty about his character," Rosen said. "He continues to improve with every passing meet, and I feel sky is the limit for him."

Berkeley College's men's cross country teams will return to action this Saturday, as the Knights will participate in the NJIT Highlander Challenge Invitational meet at Branch Brook Park in Newark, NJ. The men's race will begin at noon.
