The Berkeley College New Jersey men's soccer team blitzed Penn State Mont Alto on Saturday afternoon, turning back the Nittany Lions by a score of 10-0. With the victory, the Knights improved to 3-0 on the 2017 season, while Penn State Mont Alto dipped to 0-3 with the defeat. Following the victory, Head Coach Bruno Ferreira gave his thoughts.

"Our team got contributions from many different players today, and that is very encouraging to see," Ferreira said. "We started this mini two-game road trip off on the right foot, getting a victory here today, and we'll hope to grab another win tomorrow against Penn State Lehigh Valley. Our confidence as a group is sky-high right now, and we're just looking to continue to ride this wave as long as we can. We're off to a great start."

It was utter domination for Berkeley College from the jump, as first-year standout James Ashun scored two goals within a span of 2:33, as the Dumont High School product notched tallies at the 15:26 and 17:59 marks to give the Knights a 2-0 lead (Tiago Da Costa and Kevin Soares recorded assists on the respective scores). Later, it was Ichiaaka Doumbia (from Da Costa) netting a goal 24:09 into the stanza to catapult Berkeley to a 3-0 edge. 3:58 later, Edgar Jurado scored an unassisted goal to put the Knights ahead 4-0.

The offensive show continued later in the first half, as Shabthai Abellard (from Thomas Gerbasio), Wolfgang Whalen (unassisted) and Arturo Layza (from Gerbasio again) scored at the 34:35, 35:43, and 36:00 marks, respectively, to put Berkeley College up by the commanding score of 7-0. The Knights would tack on three goals in the second half (by Jurado, Whalen, and Hassane Camara) to account for the 10-0 final score.

Robert Parker got the start in net for the Knights, and he logged just over 20 minutes of action (20:04) and did not face a shot. Newcomer Wily Peralta relieved Parker and served as the goaltender for the remainder of the contest, and he shutout Penn State Mont Alto for 69:56 while making three saves.

Berkeley College out-shot the Nittany Lions by a count of 24-4 on the afternoon.

The Knights will return to action tomorrow afternoon, as Berkeley will take on Penn State LeHigh Valley. Start-time for that match is scheduled for 1:00pm.
