The Berkeley College New York men's soccer team put forth a valiant effort on Wednesday evening, but ultimately felt to the Privateers of SUNY Maritime by a score of 5-2 in a match played at Reinhart Field in the Bronx, NY. With the loss, the Knights dipped to a record of 1-2 on the 2017 campaign, while the Privateers remained unbeaten on the season at 5-0-1.

SUNY Maritime struck early in this one, as the Privateers collected a pair of goals within the first two minutes of action. Just 58 seconds in, Parker Gallt would score on a header off of a long throw into the box by Justin Forrest. That gave the Privateers a 1-0 advantage. 58 seconds later – at 1:56 – Corey Cartano found the back of the net, chipping home the ball from the right wing to increase his team's advantage to 2-0.

Berkeley College would get one of those goals back at the 8:14 mark, as Marcos Leon would record a goal (off of a pass from Omario Rosen) to cut his team's deficit to 2-1. Then – in the latter stages of the opening stanza, newcomer Meshema Charles would chip home a pass Leon to even the game at two goals apiece. 2-2 would be the score as the teams broke for halftime.

In the second half, the Privateers used a barrage of goals within a span of 18:08 to pull away from Berkeley. Ciacca would notch a goal in the 61st minute off a cross from the left wing to give his team a 3-2 edge. Anthony Palazzolo picked up an assist on the goal. Then, it was Gallt addeding his second goal of the match in the 72nd minute with another assist from Palazzolo, as the Privateers catapulted to a 4-2 lead. In the 80th minute, Palazzolo scored off a pass from the right wing from Neil Dillon to make it 5-2 SUNY Maritime.

The Privateers held a 20-10 edge in the shots department, while also earning five corner kick opportunities compared to zero for Berkeley College. Fouls were nearly even in this one, with SUNY Maritime getting whistled for nine, and the Knights eight.

Berkeley will look to halt its two-game slide on Saturday evening, as the Knights take to the road to battle Moravian. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 7:00pm.
