Moravian College uses barrage of late goals to put away New York men's soccer team 3-0 on Saturday evening

The Berkeley College New York men's soccer team put forth a hearty effort on Saturday evening before eventually falling to the Greyhounds of Moravian College by a score of 3-0 at John Makuvek Field. The Knights fell to 1-3 on the 2017 campaign with the loss, while Moravian stayed unbeaten, improving its record to 5-0-1 on the year.

Berkeley knew the Greyhounds would pose as a very difficult opponent, as Moravian had only allowed one goal through five contests coming in. Still, the Knights went toe-to-toe with the Greyhounds for a majority of the match – as neither team was able to find the back of net over the course of the first 71 minutes of play.

Later, Moravian would break through for three goals in less than five minutes to pull away from Berkeley College. At 71:25 into the match, Akinori Mollenthiel scored the crucial first goal, punching in the ball off of a rebound to give his team a 1-0 edge. 3:17 later, Dylan Evande would notch an unassisted tally to give his team a two-goal cushion, as the Greyhounds grabbed a 2-0 lead. Finally, it was Rocky Fatuova rounding out the offense for his club, scoring on a hard shot (from Connor Phillips) at 76:03 to put his team up 3-0.

The Knights were only able to muster four shots in the final 14 minutes of action as Morvian College would eventually go on to win the match by three goals.

Moravian out-shot the Knights 16-10 on the day, while also earning 10 corner kick opportunities compared to two for Berkeley. The Greyhounds were whistled for 15 fouls on the evening, while Berkeley College committed 12 fouls.

Moravian goaltender Bryan Yaskowski picked up the victory in net, as he played 80:43, stopping six shots and not allowing a goal. Osvin Videz Vazquez took the loss for Berkeley College as he allowed three goals in 76:03 of action, while stopping four shots.

The Knights will look to bounce back on Wednesday evening, as Berkeley College will play its home opener against Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe Davis College. The game will take place at Aviator Field in Brooklyn, NY. Start-time is scheduled for 8:30pm.
