The Berkeley College New York men's soccer team broke a three-game losing streak on Wednesday evening, defeating the Falcons of Davis College in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match by a score of 6-1 in a contest played at Aviator Field in Brooklyn, NY. With the win, the Knights improved their record to 2-3 on the year (1-0 HVIAC), while the Falcons dipped to 2-4 (1-0 HVIAC). Following the victory, Head Coach Stavros Zomopoulos gave his thoughts.

"We put forth some very strong efforts against some very quality schools over the past three games – and while we weren't able to get a victory – I was still proud of how determined we were," Zomopoulos said. "Coming into tonight's contest, I knew getting a victory would be a morale-booster for the student-athletes, and I'm glad we were able to do that. Many different players contributed, and it was a great way to kick-off our conference portion of the schedule."

In what was a collective team effort for Berkeley, six different players scored goals for the Knights. The first tally of the evening came in the very latter stages (2:47 mark) of the contest when Jean-Gardy Derineau collected a pass from Marcos Leon before playing it into the goal from the left side to give his team a 1-0 advantage. 4:15 later – senior Victor Marotta scored his first goal of the season (assisted by Josue Jimenez) to increase the Knights' edge to 2-0.

Berkeley's third goal came off of a rebound. After Enis Zahmoul's shot was initially blocked by the defense, Matthew Perreira would blast home the ball to put the Knights up 3-0. Tallies by Marcos De Leon (from Zahmoul at 21:56) and Guzman (from Leon at 40:42) gave Berkeley a commanding 5-0 edge as the teams broke for halftime.

In the second half –at the 55:51 mark – the Knights' Emmanuel Poku-Adusei stole the ball from the center back and scored on a breakaway to push Berkeley's edge to 6-0. Davis College did get on the scoreboard 69:55 into the match when Austin Mousseau played a ball from the left and chipped the ball over the goalkeepers head and into the net to make it 6-1. That would prove to be the final goal on the evening for either team.

Berkeley dominated the shots category, out-shooting the Falcons 33-9. The Knights earned seven corner kick opportunities, while Davis didn't have any. The fouls were nearly when, with the Falcons committing 13, and the Knights getting whistled for 12.

Luis Zenteno started in net for the Knights, and he earned the victory, playing the entire first half and making one save. Osvin Videz-Vasquez played the second half for Berkeley, stopping two shots and allowing one goal. Jackson Henri took the loss in net for the Falcons, as he faced 13 shots, allowing six goals and making seven saves.

The Knights will look to make it two consecutive victories on Saturday evening, as Berkeley will take to the road to battle SUNY Canton. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 6:00pm.
