The Berkeley College New Jersey men's soccer team suffered a loss on Friday afternoon, falling to the Bobcats of Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse by a score of 7-0 at the Central NY Family Sports Centre in Syracuse, NY. With the defeat, the Knights slipped to a mark of 10-3 on the year, while the Bobcats improved their record to an unbeaten 7-0 on the 2017 campaign. Following the match, Head Coach Bruno Ferreira gave his thoughts.
"Unfortunately, we didn't play well today," Ferreira said. "The one thing I always preach, however, is that no loss is completely empty if you learn from it. We need to learn from our mistakes today, and I believe our guys will. I'm also glad that we don't have too much time to dwell on this one, as we'll have an opportunity to rebound tomorrow against a solid Broncos club."
The match was scoreless until the 30th minute of action, when Bryant & Stratton would break through for the contest's first goal. Ojai Bedward would record the tally (Millon Prescott recorded the assist on the play), and the Bobcats led 1-0. 12 minutes later, Bryant & Stratton extended its lead when Alex Pompo would find the back of the net (off a pass from Zino Zampach at the 42:00 mark) to up his team's advantage to two goals. The Bobcats led 2-0 at that juncture of the match, and that would be the score as the teams broke for halftime.
In the second session, Bryant & Stratton received goals from Milan Jakovljevic, Dragan Cvetkovic (from Zampach), Mattieu LaRoux (from Ousmane Kamara), another from Pompo, and Delano Hodge (from Kamara) to pull away from the Knights in a big way. The Bobcats led the match 7-0 after 75 minutes, and that would turn out to be the final score.
Bryant & Stratton dominated the match in every facet, controlling the tempo the entire way through and out-shooting the Knights by a margin of 21-7. Wily Peralta took the loss in net for Berkeley College, as he allowed all seven goals while stopping 14 shots. Bobcats netminder Felix Piazzo earned the victory in goal, as he played 45 minutes and made four saves while not allowing a goal.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, as Berkeley will take on Broncos of SUNY Delhi. Start-time for that contest is set for 2:00pm.
