Roadrunners race out to 4-0 lead before holding off New Jersey men's soccer team 5-2 in drizzly Columbus Day contest

The Berkeley College New Jersey men's soccer team lost its third consecutive contest, falling to the Roadrunners of Ramapo College on Columbus Day afternoon by a score of 5-2 in Mahwah, NJ. With the loss, the Knights fell to 10-5 on the season, while Ramapo improved its mark to 7-7 on the 2017 campaign.

The roadrunners took an early 1-0 advantage in this one when Edward Franzoni notched a goal (Trevor Albrecht notched an assist on the play) just 1:14 into the match. After nearly 24 minutes of scoreless soccer following that goal, Ramapo College broke through for three more goals in a span of 2:31. At the 25:01 mark, Brady White tapped a pass over to Guilherme DeNovaes who buried the ball into the back of the net to increae the Roadrunners' lead to 2-0. Ariton Mimini (assisted by Franzoni) and Franzoni (assisted by Joseph Fala) scored at 25:48 and 27:32 respectively to make it 4-0 Ramapo.

Berkeley College got on the board at 33:58 when Wender Lima buried a penalty kick to cut his team's deficit to three goals at 4-1. That would be the final goal either side would score in the opening session.

Ramapo College would strike again at the 52:26 mark when David Inahuazo would cash in on a penalty kick opportunity after taking a hard foul. That increased the Roadrunners' commanding edge to 5-1. The Knights were able to record one final goal on the day, and that came at 67:21 when Kevin Soares found the net to bring Berkeley College to within three goals at 5-2.

Ramapo College out-shot the Knights by a margin of 19-5 on the day.

The Knights will return to action on Thursday afternoon, as Berkeley College will take on the defending USCAA Division II champion Bengals of the University of Maine at Fort Kent. The match will take place at Ramapo College, and start-time is scheduled for 4:00pm.
