New York men's soccer team suffers 4-1 loss to Broncos of SUNY Delhi on Wednesday afternoon

In its final tune-up for the upcoming Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament, the Berkeley College New York men's soccer team dropped a match to SUNY Delhi on Wednesday afternoon, falling to the Broncos by a score of 4-1 in a match played in Delhi, NY. With the defeat, the Knights dipped to 8-6-1 on the year, while the Broncos improved their record to 8-7.

Both teams had some opportunities in the early stages of the opening session, but neither team was able to find the back of the net over the first 30 minutes of action. SUNY Delhi's Brody Rettle put the Broncos on top 1-0, as he buried a rebound off the post from Alhasane Sako in the 31st minute. Later – in the closing stages of the half, SUNY Delhi would record a pair of goals – one from Darion Arango at 43:13, and another from Rettle at 44:02. As the teams broke for halftime, the Broncos led 3-0.

Holding a commanding advantage, the Broncos continued to press Berkeley College in the second session, holding the Knights in check. SUNY Delhi would score again in the 60th minute, as Rettle would net his third goal of the contest to put his team up 4-0.

The Knights' lone goal came in the 71st minute when Omario Rosen buried a free kick to make it 4-1 in favor of the Broncos.

Berkeley College finished ahead of Delhi in shots, 18-14, and 10-8 in shots on goal. Both sides had a pair of corner kicks, while the Knights were called on 14 fouls to the Broncos' 13. Berkeley's Shane Fokuo took the loss in net, allowing three goals and making three saves in 45 minutes of action.

The Knights will now have two days off before taking on Albany College of Pharmacy in the semifinal round of the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday evening in Albany, NY.
