New York men's soccer team loses heartbreaker to SUNY Maritime 1-0, as Privateer goal in 78th minute proves to be the difference

The Berkeley College New York men's soccer team suffered a tough defeat on Wednesday evening, falling to the Privateers of SUNY Maritime by a score of 1-0 in a match that took place at Reinhart Field in the Bronx, NY. With the loss, the Knights fell to 1-3 on the 2018 season, while SUNY Maritime increased its mark to 5-1 on the year.

Neither team was able to score throughout the match's first 77 minutes, but the Privateers' Jake Palmer would finally put a crooked number on the scoreboard in the 78th minute, as he received a long cross pass from Neil Dillon, eluded Knights goalkeeper Dario Cruz Sepulveda, and buried the ball into the net to give his team a crucial 1-0 edge. That would be the only goal of the game.

After Berkeley out-shot the Privateers by a count of 10-5 in a scoreless first half for both squads, an aggressive SUNY Maritime team registered eight shots to the Knights' two in second stanza.

Privateer netminder Michael Rodriguez recorded the shutout in front of a stellar SUNY-Maritime defense. He made four saves in the process. On the flip side, the Knights' Sepulveda put forth a valiant effort in net, allowing just the one goal while stopping four shots.

The Knights will look to bounce back on Saturday afternoon, as Berkeley will take on Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse on the road. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 1:00pm.
