New Jersey men's soccer team breaks through offensively in second half in 6-1 destruction of Patriots on Wednesday afternoon

The Berkeley College New Jersey men's soccer team put together a strong second session to defeat the Patriots of Valley Forge University by a score of 6-1 in Phoenixville, PA. With the victory, the Knights improved to a record of 2-7 on the 2018 season, while the Patriots slipped to 2-6 on the year.

It was a good start to a new month for the Knights, who put on an offensive show in the final 45 minutes to grab a victory. The Patriots netted the first goal of the contest at 34:45 when Devon Washington netted an unassisted tally by blasting home a shot from the top center of the goal to give his team a 1-0 advantage. That would be the lone goal scored of the first half, as Valley Forge University led by a goal after the first session.

Berkeley would tie the match 47 seconds into the second half when Arturo Layza would find the back of the net (off a pass from Robins Etienne). 36 seconds later, at 46:23, Wender Lima gave the Knights the lead for good, receiving a pass from Alejandro Thomas before zipping through defenders and burying the ball into the bottom right of the goal. The Knights led 2-1 at that juncture.

Lima scored again at 54:23 (from Etienne), and Arzheen Othman notched an unassisted goal at 71:37 to catapult Berkeley to a 4-1 lead. Igancio Sanin added a goal at 72:15 (from Felipe Dos Santos), and Othman found the back of the net again at 83:58 to account for the other two Knights goals.

Berkeley dominated this game offensively, out-shooting the Patriots by a count of 30-6. The Knights were whistled for 18 fouls compared to 11 for Valley Forge University.

The Knights will return to action on Saturday afternoon, as Berkeley College will take to the road to battle Dean College. The contest will take place at the Longley Field Athletic Complex in Franklin, Massachusetts. Start-time is scheduled for 1:00pm.
