Ramapo College routs New Jersey men's soccer team 5-0 in a rainy, cloudy Columbus Day afternoon match

The Berkeley College New Jersey men's soccer team suffered a loss on Monday afternoon, dropping a Columbus Day match to the Roadrunners of Ramapo College by a score of 5-0 in Mahwah, NJ. With the loss, the Knights slipped to 3-8 on the 2018 season, while the Roadrunners improved to 11-2.

The lone goal in the opening session by either side came courtesy of Ramapo's Bashkim Saiti, as he blasted a ball past Robert Parker from 30 yards out to give his team a 1-0 lead. After 45 minutes of action, the Roadrunners led by a goal.

Ramapo broke the game open in the second stanza, netting a plethora of goals to run away with the victory. At 53:41, Peter Livanis scored (Saiti and Guiherme DeNovaes each picked up an assist on the play) to give the Roadrunners a 2-0 edge. Exactly four minutes later (at 57:41), DeNovaes notched a penalty kick goal to catapult Ramapo to a 3-0 advantage. Ramapo increased its lead to four goals at the 61:45 mark when Joseph Faia found the back of the net (Jorge Castro and Ariton Mimini had the assists on the play).

The Roadrunners continued to pepper shots into the net, as Faia scored his second goal of the afternoon (from Castro) to put Ramapo ahead by the score of 5-0 at the 71:08 mark of the match.

Ramapo held a 27-12 edge in the shots category. Roadrunners goalkeeper Joshua Schaffer made eight stops in earning the shutout.

Berkeley College will return to action on Wednesday evening, as the Knights will host the College of Mount Saint Vincent at Mattano Park in Elizabeth, NJ. Start-time is scheduled for 5:30pm.
