Berkeley College's Shi'yem Lennon, Julio Sanchez, and Ryuji Sugiyama earn Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference recognition

The Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners for the period of Monday, October 8 through Sunday October 14, and Berkeley College's men's soccer and men's cross country teams were well represented. Ryuji Sugiyama earned the conference's Rookie of the Week honor for men's soccer, while cross country's Shi'yem Lennon and Julio Sanchez were named Runner of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively.

Sugiyama earned men's soccer Rookie of the Week recognition thanks to a pair of productive performances in a pair of conference matches last week. The freshman scored a goal and notched two assists in the Knights' 9-1 win over Pratt Institute back on October 10 at Aviator Field. He also scored two goals and recorded an assist in the Knights' 5-2 win over Albany this past Friday evening. In addition, Amadou Sy was tabbed to the conference's Honor Roll list for the week, as he scored two goals against the Cannoneers (10/10), while also finding the back of the net once against the Panthers (10/12).

Berkeley's New York men's soccer team returns to action this week with matches against HVIAC foes Vaughn College and Culinary Institute of America.

Shi'yem Lennon earned the conference's Runner of the Week award thanks to his strong effort at the Caldwell Cougar Chase this past Saturday. In the 8K meet, the John F. Kennedy High School product led Berkeley to a 2nd place finish out of three teams by crossing the tape at 31:08 (2nd place overall). His teammate, Julio Sanchez, earned the Rookie of the Week distinction by finishing 5th in that same aforementioned event with a time of 32:13.

The men's cross country team returns to the course on Saturday, October 20, as the Knights will compete in the Hudson Valley Sportsdome Invitational. Start-time for that race is set for 11:30am.
