New York men's soccer team clinches perfect regular season HVIAC record with 5-1 drubbing of Culinary Institute of America on Saturday afternoon

The Berkeley College New York men's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to nine contests, today defeating the Steels of Culinary Institute of America by a score of 5-1 in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game. With the victory, the Knights improved to 9-4-1 overall, and also finished an unblemished 6-0 in regular season conference matches in the process. Culinary dipped to 1-8 overall, and 0-5 in conference.

Berkeley struck twice in the opening half, with the first of those goals coming via a header from Omario Rosen. Matthew Perreira supplied the pass, sending a long ball over the top that Rosen tapped inside the far post to give the Knights a 1-0 edge. Berkeley's other opening half tally came when Jeana-Gardy Derineau sent a looping pass towards the net that was headed in by Rosen. After 45 minutes of action, Berkeley held a 2-0 advantage.

Just 4:59 into the second session, Amadou Sy increased the Knights' lead to 3-0, as he put in a rebound from a few feet away for a goal. Later, at 78:23, Samuel Nortey zipped a pass into the top of the box that was blasted home by Gaetan Roody Derinea to give Berkeley a 4-0 lead. The red-hot Meshema Charles accounted for the Knights' fifth goal, scoring on a rocket shot (from Tcharly Verna) at 83:05.

Culinary Institute would add a late goal in the waning minutes, as Chance Foltyn would score on a free kick from 30 yards out at the 84:18 mark.

Berkeley out-shot the Steels by a count of 22-5 for the match.

The Knights will return to action on Monday afternoon, as the team will take to the road to play Keystone College in its final tune-up for the upcoming HVIAC Tournament. Start-time for the match against the Giants is scheduled for 4:00pm.
