The Berkeley College New York men's soccer team is one victory away from a trip to the USCAA Division II National title game, as the Knights today defeated the Lynx of NHTI by a score of 2-0 at the Princess Anne Sports Complex in Virginia Beach, VA. With the victory, the Knights are now 12-5-1 on the 2018 campaign, while the Lynx dropped to 9-5-1.

The victory for the Knights against Penn State Brandywine tomorrow would mean Berkeley would automatically advance to Monday's afternoon's championship contest. A loss tomorrow would put Berkeley in a position to wait on the outcome of Sunday's NHTI-Penn State Brandywine confrontation.

In today's contest, the game was scoreless through the first 45 minutes of action, primarily because of NHTI goaltender Andre Sturgeon, as he made eight saves, including four or five incredible ones. Berkeley dominated in the shots category in the opening half, blasting 18 to the Lynx' three, but neither team was able to break through for the important first goal.

The second half proved to be a different story in terms of goals scored, but the Knights dominated the shot category even more, out-shooting NHTI 22-1 in the final 45 minutes. Berkeley's first goal came courtesy an "own goal", as the ball was put behind Sturgeon by an NHTI player at 50:14 to give Berkeley a 1-0 edge.

The Knights picked up a pivotal insurance goal later at 73:28 when Omario Rosen received a beautiful pass from Anthony Mejia before blasting the ball home. The Knights held a 2-0 advantage at that point, and the Lynx never came close to cutting that lead in half as Berkeley advanced for a big victory.

The Knights earned 12 corner kick opportunities for the game, compared to just one for the Lynx.
