The Berkeley College New Jersey men's soccer team halted its three-match losing skid in emphatic fashion, dominating the Eagles of the College of St. Elizabeth by a score of 7-0 in a match played in Morristown, NJ. With the victory, the Knights improved to 5-3-1 on the 2019 campaign, while the Eagles dipped to 2-7-1.
The lone goal of the opening session was accounted for by Berkeley's Robins Etienne. Carlos Goncalves registered an assist on the tally. The Knights out-shot the College of St. Elizabeth 8-1 in the first 45 minutes of action, but still held just a 1-0 advantage on the scoreboard.
Berkeley increased its edge to 2-0 in the early stages of the second half when Anderson Amador notched an unassisted goal, deflecting a shot off an Eagles defender and into the net. The Knights held that 2-0 advantage until the 72nd minute, when veteran Sebastien Cannizzo capitalized on a two-on-one breakaway opportunity, receiving a beautiful pass from Matheo Faccin before burying the ball into the net to increase Berkeley's lead to a commanding three goals.
The Knights would tack on four more goals in a span of 2:44. Esteban Pedrueza would score by deflected a ball off an Eagle player near the top of the box to make it 4-0 (82:29). 56 seconds later, Danti Drishti notched an unassisted goal, dribbling through the defense before blasting a ball home to make it 5-0 Berkeley. Then, at 83:44, Dylan Jurado would score (from Erick Carabantes) to increase the Knights edge to 6-0, before Damaniek Brevett would cap the scoring by heading a ball into the top left corner of the goal to give Berkeley its seventh and final goal of the afternoon.
Berkeley dominated this match, out-shooting the College of St. Elizabeth by a count of 27-7. The Knights earned seven corner kick opportunities compared to one for the opposition, and both squads were whistled for 14 fouls apiece.
Angel Sanchez started in net for Berkeley, logging 81:03 and not allowing a goal and making one stop. Klae Nicholson played the final 8:57 for the Knights.
Berkeley will look to make it two consecutive victories on Saturday, as the Knights take to the road to battle Bryant & Stratton-Albany. Start-time for the contest is scheduled for 1:00pm.
