Knights win second consecutive match, downing Webb Institute by a score of 7-2 on Monday evening

The Berkeley College New York men's tennis team is doing more than just introducing itself in its inaugural season – it's establishing a winning culture. The Knights won their second consecutive match on Monday evening, defeating Webb Institute by a score of 7-2 in a contest played at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY. With the victory, Berkeley improved its record to 2-1 on the season (2-1 HVIAC), while Webb dipped to 0-3 on the year (0-3 HVIAC).

Berkeley College jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the match following doubles play, as the Knights solidified victories at No's 1 and 2. Webb Institute avoided a sweep in doubles competition by nailing-down a win at No. 3. At No. 1 doubles, the Knights' combination of Thinh Nguyen and Herder Pisco outlasted Chris Licato and Ben Rockwell in a classic by a score of 8-6. Berkeley claimed victory at No. 2 when Omar Durrani and Sebastien Rousseau turned back Webb's Even Wingfield and Kevin Prichard 8-2. Webb won at No. 3 when Nick Ratinaud and Jonathan Hale shutout Esoffi Amine and Johan Hildingsson, 8-0.

When play switched over to singles, the Knights won five of the six sets to account for the 7-2 final score. At No. 1 singles, Nguyen silenced Licato, 10-1. Durrani solidified a victory at No. 2 by turning back Wingfield 10-1. At No. 3 singles, Berkeley's Pisco downed Rockwell 10-2, and Rousseau pushed past Richard 10-6 at No. 4 singles. The Knights' fifth singles victory came at No. 6, when Chubak Ulan outlasted Satchel Douglas, 10-8. Webb's lone win at singles came at No. 5, as Ratinaud shutout Amine, 8-0. Following the match, Berkeley College Head Coach David Eddy gave his thoughts.

"As always, our guys had a very positive approach to the match tonight, and that ultimately was exemplified with the way they played," Eddy said. "These student-athletes are hungry to compete and prove themselves, and thus far their efforts have resulted in success. We're 2-1 right now, but we know we will have a pair of tests this weekend against Staten Island and St. Joseph's (Brooklyn). We are looking forward to it."

The Knights will look to continue their winning ways on Saturday afternoon, as Berkeley travels to Staten Island, NY to take on the CSI Dolphins in a non-conference match. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 1:00pm, weather-permitting.
