Knights lose non-conference match to Lehman College, 7-2 in season finale; HVIAC championship competition takes place this Saturday

The Berkeley College New York men's tennis team wrapped-up its regular season portion of the 2015 schedule on Sunday afternoon, dropping a non-conference match to the Lightning of Lehman College by a score of 7-2 in a match played at the APEX Tennis Courts in the Bronx, NY. With the win, Lehman finalized its campaign with a 5-9 overall mark, while the Knights fell to 3-5 overall.

The Lightning set the tone for the match early, as Lehman College won all three doubles sets. At No. 1 doubles, it was the Lightning's pair of Carlo Maghirang and Gene Nakagaki defeating Berkeley's Joe Nguyen and Herder Pisco by a score of 8-4. The Knights' duo of Omar Durrani and Sebastien Rousseau fell to Lehman's Al Joseph Dubouzet and Socrates Peralta 8-1 at No. 2 doubles, and the No. 3 doubles set saw the Lightning's FranKelly Ortiz and Elvis Mejia turn back the Knights' Alexander Maurmom and Chubak Ulan by a score of 8-4.

When play switched over to singles, the Knights put forth a hearty effort, but the Lightning would ultimately win four of the six singles sets to nail-down the victory. Lehman's singles wins came at No. 2, 3, 4, and 5 singles. At the No. 2 flight, Nakagaki outlasted Nguyen, 6-2, 7-5. No. 3 singles saw Dubouzet silence Pisco, 6-1, 6-3, and Peralta stopped Rousseau at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-2. At No. 5, Ortiz downed Maurmom, 6-1, 6-1. Berkeley's two solo victories came at No. 1 and No. 5. At the No. 1 flight, Durrani battled back to defeat Maghirang, 2-6, 6-2, 10-5. Finally, at No. 6 singles, it was Ulan downing Mejia, 10-5.

Next up for Berkeley, the Knights will compete in the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship for the first time in program history this Saturday. The championship competition will take place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, and start-time for that is scheduled for 1:00pm.
