The Berkeley College men's tennis team split a pair of non-conference matches on Sunday afternoon, defeating the New School in a tight contest by a score of 5-4 before falling to the Devils of FDU-Florham by a score of 8-1. With the Knights' output, Berkeley is now 2-6 on the 2016 campaign with two regular season matches remaining before the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament gets underway this Thursday.

In the opening match of the day, the Knights out-worked the New School to pick up the win. Berkeley won two out of the three doubles flights to grab an early 2-1 advantage in the match. At No. 1 doubles, the Knights' standout combination of Victor Marotta and Kazuki Suzuki turned back The New School's Dan Poll and Sean McKenny by a score of 8-3. The Knights also picked up a victory at the No. 3 flight when Rajah Ulrich Mopoundza and Prince Ngakala won by default. The New School did solidify a win at No. 2 singles, with Michael Drummonds and Michael Klunder outworked Andrea Massignani and Sebastian Rousseau, 8-3.

Berkeley College closed-out the victory when played switched to singles, as the Knights captured three of the six flights to clinch the 5-4 win. No. 1 singles featured Marotta silencing Drummonds, 8-0, and at No. 2, it was Suzuki defeating Klunder in a classic flight, 9-8 (8-6). Ngakala also picked up a default victory at the No. 6 flight. The New School's singles flights wins came at No's 3 (Poll over Mopoundza, 8-3), No. 4 (McKenny over Rousseau, 8-1), and No. 5 (Pao Bernal over Massignani, 8-3).

In the second match between the Devils and Knights this week, FDU-Florham prevailed again and swept all six singles' flights. Berkeley College battled in the first two singles flights, but FDU-Florham's Max Moscowitz proved to be too much for Marotta, outlasting the Knights standout, 8-5. Also, in a tight No. 2 flight, Jason Dubinsky inched by Suzuki, 8-6. No. 3 singles saw Rich Bennett shutout Mopoundza, 8-0, and at No. 4 it was Chris Ly downing Rousseau, 8-0. The Devils' Ryan O'Keefe turned back Massignani 8-1 at No. 5 singles, and it was FDU's Steven Serras defeating Ngakala, 8-1 at No. 6 singles.

The Knights' lone win of the match came in first doubles as Marotta and Suzuki topped Dubinsky and Serras 9-7. The Devils responded with a pair of 8-1 victories by Moscowitz/O'Keefe and Bobby Davison/Jonathan Ford in second and third doubles, respectively.

Berkeley College will continue its season tomorrow with a 7:00pm match at Rutgers-Newark.
