The Berkeley College men's tennis team dropped a non-conference match on Monday afternoon, falling to the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers-University Newark by a score of 8-1 at the Golden Dome Tennis Courts in Newark, NJ. With the defeat, the Knights slipped to 2-7 on the 2016 campaign, while the Scarlet Raiders improved their mark to 7-6.

Rutgers-University Newark swept all three doubles flights to take a commanding 3-0 lead. At No. 1 doubles, the Scarlet Raiders' combination of Ray Fan and Nadeem Hilal defeated Berkeley's duo of Victor Marotta and Sebastian Rousseau by a score of 8-6. No. 2 doubles featured Rutgers-University Newark's Joe Codomo and Richard Nguyen silencing Rajah Ulrich Mopoundza and Andrea Massignani 8-0, and finally it was Stan Wu and Benjamin Lioue turning back the Knights' Alexander Maurmann and Prince Ngakala, 8-1.

When play switched over to singles, the Scarlet Raiders captured five of the six flights to account for the 8-1 final score. The Knights' lone victory in the match came at No. 1 singles, where Marotta turned away Fan, 7-5, 6-1. Rutgers-University Newark picked up a victory at No. 2 singles when Hilal outlasted Mopoundza, 6-1, 6-4. At No. 3 singles, Nguyen inched by Rousseau 8-5, and it was Codomo dominating Massignani, 6-1, 6-0. No. 5 singles featured Lioue defeating Maurmann, 6-0, 6-1, and finally, it was the Scarlet Raiders' Raheel Khawaja downed Ngakala, 6-1, 6-1.

The Knights will look to bounce back tomorrow evening, as Berkeley will travel to Glen Cove, NY to battle Webb Institute in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest. Start-time for that match is scheduled for 4:00pm.
