Knights earn impressive 6-3 victory over Webb Institute in Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match

The Berkeley College men's tennis team made it two consecutive victories on Sunday afternoon, as the Knights turned back the Webbies of Webb Institute by a score of 6-3 in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match. The contest took place in Glen Cove, NY. With the win, the Knights are now 3-2 on the 2017 campaign (2-1 in league play), while Webb Institute dipped to 1-3 (0-3 HVIAC).

Berkeley catapulted to a demanding lead in this contest, as the Knights captured victories at the three doubles flights. At No. 1 doubles, Johnathan Wilson and Alexander Maurmann teamed up to defeat Duane Lee and Jon Hale, 8-4. Berkeley's Raj Ulrich Mopoundza and Nicholas Echovarria beat Webbies' pairing of Andrew Vogeler and Kevin Prichard, 8-3, and at the No. 3 doubles flight, it was the Knights' combination of Sebastien Rousseau and Prince Ngakala downing Webb Institute's duo of Brent Hill and Taylor Campbell, 8-4.

When play switched over to singles, the teams split the six flights to account for the 6-3 final score in favor of the Knights. Berkeley College picked up an easy victory at No. 1 when Wilson dominated Lee, defeating him by a score of 10-2. Rousseau made quick work of Hale at the No. 3 flight, downing him by a score of 10-2, and it was Maurmann outlasted Vogeler 10-7 at No. 5. The Webbies earned wins at No. 2 (Galen Ng over Mopoundza, 10-7), No. 4 (Prichard over Echovarria, 10-7), and No. 6 (Seth Jones over Ngakala, 10-7).

The Knights will now have a long layoff before returning to action on April 19, as Berkeley College will wrap-up its regular season and HVIAC portion of the schedule against Vaughn College at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 7:00pm.
