The men's and women's cross country teams participated in the Mount Saint Mary College Knight Invitational this past Saturday in Newburgh, NY. Not only did both of Berkeley College's teams score, but there were a tremendous amount of individual performances on the day as well.
On the men's side, Berkeley College finished 13th amongst 18 participating schools. Newcomer Anthony Argueta put forth yet another brilliant effort, as he finished in 10th place overall in the men's 8K race, crossing the finish line in 29:03. Stanley Jeantly and Aaron Griffith finished 82nd and 83rd amongst all scoring runners with times of 38:36 and 39:10, respectively, and Albert Jordan (91st – 41:29) and Colin Burke (96th – 42:47) rounded out things for the men. Head Coach Adam Rosen gave his thoughts on the male performances following the meet.
"This is definitely the best collective performance that this group has put together since my tenure as the team's Head Coach began in the summer of 2015," Rosen said. "These guys work diligently to improve their race times, and it's extremely encouraging to see them achieving so much success. I'm very proud of all of them."
For Berkeley College women's team, the Knights finished 19th out of 21 participating schools. Pamela Andrade led the way for her team, as she finished 92nd amongst all scoring runners, finishing at 33:08. Amanda Ekornes recoded a 113th place finish, as she crossed the line at 36:40, and Melissa Ramirez completed the women's 6k course with a time of 38:08. Marilyn Contreras and Kimberly Acevedo finished in 122nd and 124th place, respectively, with times of 40:03 and 41:33. Rosen praised his female runners following the meet.
"Two words that characterize this women's squad are poised and determined," Rosen said. "They certainly have great focus on the course, and they've continued to elevate themselves with each passing meet. I'm looking forward to seeing how they'll perform in the latter portion of this season."
Berkeley College's cross country teams will return to action this Saturday, as the Knights will participate in the NJIT Highlander Challenge Invitational meets at Branch Brook Park in Newark, NJ. Both the men's and women's races will begin at 11:00am.
