Aaron Griffith, Marilyn Contreras, and Ali Dawha earn Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference recognition

The Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners for the period of Monday evening, October 3 through Sunday, October 9, and Berkeley College teams were well represented. Men's cross country's Aaron Griffith was tabbed as the conference's Rookie of the Week, while Marilyn Contreras was named Runner of the Week. Berkeley College New York's Ali Dawha earned Honor Roll recognition.

Griffith – who has worked diligently this season in his first year running for Berkeley College – put forth a hearty effort at the 13th Annual New Jersey Institute of Technology Cross Country Challenge back on Saturday, October 8, as he finished 150th overall out of 179 total runners in the men's 8K race, crossing the finish line at 36:18.75. Following the announcement of the award, Head Coach Adam Rosen gave his thoughts.

"Aaron is a young man who has a tremendous amount of passion for running, and his dedication this season has certainly been noticed by the coaching staff and his teammates, and now it is being recognized by the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference," Rosen said. "I'm extremely proud of what he's done this season, and I'm confident he will continue to improve as the weeks go on."

Marilyn Contreras earned Runner of the Week honors for the women's cross country team, as she completed the 5K race 149th overall out of a field of 160 runners with a time of 28:35.10. Head Coach Adam Rosen believes the recognition was just a matter of time for Contreras.

"Marilyn has been a big piece of our puzzle this season on the women's side, and it's definitely gratifying to see her hard work pay by being named the top runner in the conference last week," Rosen said. "She is a very important part of this team, and I know she will continue to put forth stellar efforts."

Berkeley College's cross country teams will return to action this Saturday, as the Knights will participate in the Caldwell Univerity Cougar Chase. The men's race begins at 3:00pm, followed by the women's race at 3:45pm.

New York men's soccer's Ali Dawha earned Honor Roll recognition, as he played a pivotal role in the Knight's 3-2 win over SUNY ESF back on Saturday, October 8, scoring two goals, including the game-winner with just two minutes remaining in regulation.

The Knights will return to action on Saturday afternoon, as Berkeley College will play a critical Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match against the Panthers of Albany College of Pharmacy. Start-time for that contest begins at 5:00pm.
