Joshua Williams earns HVIAC Cross Country Rookie of the Year honors; Anthony Argueta and Andrea Gil tabbed as All-Conference runners

The Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its cross country award winners for 2017 on Tuesday afternoon, and Berkeley College had a number of its student-athletes earn recognition. On the men's side for the Knights, Joshua Williams capped his tremendous season by being tabbed as the league's Rookie of the Year. Additionally, it was Anthony Argueta achieving the accolade of All-Conference runner. For Berkeley College's women's team, Andrea Gil was named an All-Conference runner. Following the announcement of the awards, Head Coaches Michael Lincoln and Ignacio Alonso gave their thoughts.

"Joshua, Anthony, and Andrea all have tremendous work ethics, and they are all very deserving of the honors that were bestowed upon them earlier this afternoon," Lincoln said. "They are living proof that if you work hard enough, you will be recognized. These three student-athletes are cornerstones for our cross country programs, and I couldn't be more proud of them."

Alonso added, "Only being at Berkeley College a short time thus far, I am blown away by the consistent efforts of the aforementioned student-athletes. They put their hearts and souls into every race they competed in this season, and their hard work has paid off in a very big fashion. I'm extremely happy for them."

Joshua Williams' highlight performance on the 2017 season was a season-best time of 32:30 in the 5K NJIT Highlander Challenge. Anthony Argueta remained one of the models of consistency for the Knights' men's program, as he finished first amongst Berkeley runners in every meet he competed in this season, with the exception of one.

Andrea Gil shined in her first season for Berkeley College. She became one of the program's most dependable runners, and capped her fantastic first season with the team with a 38th place finish at the HVIAC championships.

The Berkeley College men's and women's cross country teams begin their 2018 seasons in mid-September.
