Berkeley College New York women's basketball team forces 48 Lion turnovers, defeats King's College 79-24 on Monday evening

The Berkeley College New York women's basketball team won its second consecutive game, turning back the Lions of King's College by a score of 79-24 Monday evening in a contest played at Aviator in Brooklyn, NY. With the victory, the Knights are now 6-1 on the 2014-2015 campaign.

The Knights used tenacious defense from the start, causing 48 King's College turnovers on the evening, and scoring 51 points off those miscues. Berkeley College also held King's to just 38 shot attempts on the evening, with the Lions only knocking down 10 of those (a conversion rate of 26.3 percent). Berkeley led 42-7 at the break, and every player who entred the game for the Knights accounted for at least one basket on the evening.

Leading the way in the victory for the Knights was point guard Janay Thomas, as she connected on seven of her 10 attempts from the floor and finalized her evening with a game-high 15 points. She also tallied four steals, dished three assists, and grabbed three rebounds. Milan Germany posted a double-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and four steals, and Patricia Patterson and Champagne Hazel accounted for 11 points apiece.

Despite the loss for King's College, Anna Eaves scored a team-high eight points for the Lions while also snatching seven boards and tallying two steals. Megan Starnes played 23 minutes and scored six points while posting a team-high 10 rebounds.

Berkeley held a 49-30 edge in the rebounding department, while also dishing 17 assists to Kings' six. Berkeley scored 60 of their 79 points in the pain as well, while also tallying 18 second-chance points.

The Knights will now have two days off before returning to action on Thursday evening, as Berkeley will take to the road to battle Yeshiva University. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 8:00pm.
