Berkeley College New York women's basketball team stymies Mustangs, 81-42, to improve to 8-1 on the 2014-2015 campaign

The Berkeley College New York women's basketball team won its fourth consecutive game, defeating the Mustangs of Mid-Atlantic Christian University by a score of 81-42 Saturday afternoon at the Borough of Manhattan Community College in Lower Manhattan. With the victory, the Knights are now 8-1 on the season, while the Mustangs slid to 1-10.

A pair of Brittany Harrison layups gave the Mustangs a 4-3 lead in the early stages of the contest, but the Knights went on a 27-1 run over a span of 9:59 to take a commanding 30-5 lead with 8:14 remaining in the opening period. Veteran Milan Germany accounted for 12 of Berkeley's 27 points during that spurt. As the teams entered the locker room at halftime, the Knights held a 43-19 edge.

After allowing just eight MACU field goals in the opening 20 minutes, the Knights allowed just eight Mustang conversions in the second half as well. Berkeley College continued to pad its lead as the game wound down, with the Knights going on to win the contest convincingly by 39.

Germany led all scorers with 21 points, while also posting a game-high 13 rebounds. She also contributed four assists and three steals, as well. Champagne Hazel continued her fine season with 17 points, eight rebounds, and five steals, and Lydia Casagrande scored 16 points off the bench while snatching five rebounds.

Despite the loss for the Mustangs, Cham Brice posted a team-high 11 points while grabbing four rebounds. Brittany Harrison and Jamie Brown netted eight points apiece, and Lacresha Young added a team-high nine rebounds.

The Knights converted on 37.3 percent of their attempts from the floor (31-83) while holding MACU to a 29.1 percent conversion rate (16-55). Berkeley out-rebouned the Mustangs 63-36, and dished 15 assists to MACU's 10. The Knights kept their turnover total low (10), while forcing 36 Mustang miscues.

Berkeley College will return to action tomorrow afternoon, as the Knight will take to the road to battle Vaughn College in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest. Start-time for that game is scheduled for 3:00pm.
