Women's basketball team edged by Davis College, 63-62 in Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action

The Berkeley College women's basketball team has its two-game winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon as the Knights suffered a 63-62 defeat to Davis College in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest. With the loss, the Knights dipped to 2-3 on the season (1-1 HVIAC), while the Falcons improved their record to 4-5 on the year (1-1 in the conference).

Despite the loss for the Knights, standout Kiara Johnson posted a game-high 22 points while recording five assists and grabbing a pair of rebounds. Letisha Bolden added 20 points, 18 rebounds, and four assists, and Jinedia Harkness contributed 15 points, five rebounds, and a team-high five steals.

In the victory for the Falcons, Alainey Banks scored a team-high 18 points while snatching six rebounds and recording a game-high six steals. Jamie Brown added 15 points, five assists, and four rebounds, and Bethany Atwood netted 12 points and recorded three assists.

Perhaps free throw shooting played a pivotal role in this contest, as Davis College was nearly perfect from the line, misfiring on just three attempts from the charity stripe (18-21), while Berkeley struggled with its free throw shooting, nailing just 50 percent of its freebees (8-16). The Knights connected on 34.2 percent of their field goal attempts (25-73), while Davis College it on 30 percent of its shots (18-60). Berkeley lost the game despite dominating on the glass, out-rebounding the Falcons 49-34 for the game.

The Knights will return to the hardwood on Thursday evening, as Berkeley College will take on the College of New Rochelle in another Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest. Start-time for that game is scheduled for 7:00pm.
