Women's basketball team drops game to United States Merchant Marine Academy 81-32 on Sunday

The Berkeley College women's basketball team is still searching for its first victory of the 2016-2017 season, as the Knights dropped a game to the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Sunday afternoon, losing to the Mariners 81-32 in a contest played at Liebertz Gymnasium. With the loss, Berkeley dipped to 0-5 on the year, while the United States Merchant Marine Academy is now 1-0.

Despite the loss for the Knights, Ashley Duplan scored a game-high 18 points, as she connected on five three-point baskets while snatching five rebounds and registering three blocks. Ebony Lofton added eight rebounds, four points, and three blocks, as well.

Four players scored in double figures for the Mariners, with Kaleigh D'Arcy posting a team-high 13 points to go along with five rebounds, three assists, and a pair of steals, and two blocks. Rachel Wahlburg and Jordy Macbeth added 12 points apiece (Macbeth also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds), and Shelby Peters netted 10 points and collected eight rebounds.

The Mariners connected on 38.6 percent of their shots from the floor (34-88) compared to just a 22 percent conversion rate for the Knights (11-50). The United States Merchant Marine Academy out-rebounded Berkeley College 71-26.

Berkeley College will return to action on Saturday, December 3, as the Knights will open Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play against Davis College. The contest will take place at the College of New Rochelle, with tip-off scheduled for 1:00pm.
