Blue Angels silence women's basketball 65-42 in Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest

The Berkeley College women's basketball team dropped a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday evening, falling to the Blue Angels of the College of New Rochelle by a score of 65-42 at the Wellness Center on the campus of the College of New Rochelle. The Blue Angels improved their mark to 6-2 on the year, and 2-0 in conference action. Berkeley dipped 0-7 with the defeat, and 0-2 in conference play.

Despite the loss for the Knights, newcomer Ashley Duplan connected on six three-point baskets en route to finishing with a game-high 18 points. She also added six rebounds, as well. Standout Gianna Acosta contributed 13 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals in a losing cause, and Ebony Lofton recorded a double-double by netting 11 points, snatching 13 rebounds, and swatting three shots.

In the win for the Blue Angels, Dar'Neisha Brice paced her squad with a team-high 17 points. She also recorded five assists while tallying four steals and grabbing three rebounds. Additionally, it was Chasity Serrano scoring 11 points in 13 minutes, and Chelsea Thomas scoring 10 points and grabbing four rebounds. Caitlin Harrison pulled down a game-high 17 rebounds and while also recording six assists.

Both teams struggled shooting the basketball on the evening, with the Blue Angels connecting on 37 percent of their attempts from the floor (30-81) compared to 27 percent for the Knights (16-59).

New Rochelle dominated the glass, out-rebounding Berkeley 63-38. The Knights committed 22 turnovers on the evening while the Blue Angels had 16 miscues, and the Blue Angels scored 34 points in the paint compared to 16 for Berkeley.

The Knights will now have 23 days off before returning to action on Saturday, January 7, 2016, as Berkeley will take on the University of Maine at Augusta as part of the NHTI Holiday Inn New Year's Classic. Start-time for that contest is set for 2:00pm.
