Knights overwhelmed by Bobcats, falling to Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse, 86-41

The Berkeley College women's basketball team dropped a road contest this past Thursday afternoon, falling to the Bobcats of Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse by a score of 86-41. The contest took place at the SRC Arena in Syracuse, NY. With the defeat, the Knights slipped to a mark of 5-5 on the 2023-2024 campaign.

Despite the loss for Berkeley, Keisy Villanueva posted team-highs of 18 points and 15 rebounds. Her five blocked shots led all players, and she also contributed two assists and a pair of steals. Jordan Washington added eight points, four boards, and a team-high three steals, and finally, Za'Nya Henderson finalized her afternoon with eight points, four assists, and a pair of steals.

In the victory for Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse, the Bobcats were led by the standout effort of Daja White, as she connected on 18 of her 38 attempts, finishing with a game-high 43 points. She also snatched four rebounds, registered a game-high four steals, and dished three assists. Kadijah Jones finalized her afternoon with 16 points and 17 rebounds, and Destiny Perry netted 13 points, grabbed five boards, dished three assists, and tallied three steals. Deounce Reed-Fuller posted a double-double with 10 points and 17 caroms, and Eunice Sillong's 18 rebounds led all players.

The Bobcats dominated from the start, outscoring the visitors 14-7 in the opening quarter, and 21-6 in the second period to take a commanding 35-13 advantage into the locker room at halftime. Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse netted 29 points in the third to Berkeley's eight, taking a 64-20 lead after 30 minutes of play. The Bobcats would go on to win the contest by 45 (86-41).

Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse connected on 43.7 percent of its attempts from the floor (38-87) compared to a 20 percent conversion rate for the Knights (15-75). The Bobcats held a commanding 61-42 edge on the glass, and Berkeley swatted six shots compared to three for the hosts. Each squad totaled seven assists and eight steals apiece, and Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse won the turnover battle, committing just nine miscues, while the Knights had 20.

Berkeley will return to action on Sunday, January 7, as the Knights will take on the University of Maine at Augusta. The game will take place at the PIT in Memorial Gymnasium in Orono, Maine, with tip-off time set for 6:00pm.
