The Berkeley College New York women's soccer team lost a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match on Monday evening, falling to the Maccabees of Yeshiva University by a score of 4-1 at the Purchase College Soccer Field in Purchase, NY. With the victory, Yeshiva improved to a mark of 1-10 on the 2014 season, including a record of 1-3 in conference competition. Berkeley dipped to 0-4 overall, and 0-3 in HVIAC play.

The Maccabees struck early in this one when Yeshiva's Jennifer Shamsian booted a ball high over the hands of Berkeley College netminder Fredica Berg at the 2:03 mark to give her team a 1-0 lead. That score would hold up until the waning seconds of the opening stanza, when Shamsian notched another goal (at 44:57, from Natasha Bassalian and Rita Gordon) to increase the Maccabees' advantage to 2-0.

In the second session, Yeshiva University scored a pair of goals early on in the period to grab a commanding four goal lead. Bassalian's goal came when she blasted a ball from the middle of the field (at 47:29, from Merav Saden Barach) into the back of the net. The Maccabees' fourth and final goal was scored by Shamsian - her third of the night - off passes from Barach and Bassalian (at 52:50).

The Knights were able to get a goal a little less than seven minutes later, as Jianny Demorizi redirected an indirect kick off the foot of Daisy Velez to bury a ball past Yeshiva University netminder Annie Jaffe to put Berkeley College on the scoreboard. The Knights weren't able to score another goal from there, as Yeshiva University held on for the 4-1 victory.

The Maccabees' Annie Jaffe picked up the win in net, making four saves and allowing just the one goal. Bery took the loss for Berkeley College, allowing four goals and making six saves in the process.

Yeshiva University out-shot Berkeley College 15-7 for the evening, while also taking six corner kicks compared to none for the Knights.

Berkeley College will return to action for its season finale on Thursday night, when the Knights battle the Bears of St. Joseph's College in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Conference match at Aviator Field in Brooklyn, NY. Prior to the game, the Berkeley College Department of Athletics will honor seniors Kerry-Ann Haughton, Wendy Valladares, Briana Ortega, Elizabeth Enriquez, and Daisy Velez in a special pre-match ceremony.
