Women's soccer team begins 2015 campaign with 2-0 defeat at the hands of York College at Aviator Field

The Berkeley College women's soccer team began its 2015 campaign Thursday evening, falling to the Cardinals of York College by a score of 2-0 in a match played at Aviator Field in Brooklyn, NY. The Knights are 0-1 to start their season, while York College now has a record of 4-6 on the season.

Tallies by York College's Jeniffer Duranzo and Shanique Hill less than four minutes apart in the opening session turned out to be the difference in this contest. Following 30 minutes of scoreless action, the Cardinals finally broke through for the contest's first goal (at 30:41) when Duranzo collected a centering pass from Cindy Rodriguez outside the goalie box before rifling a shot that slipped through the fingers of Knights netminder Amilia Ohrberg and into the net.

Later – in the 35th minute (at 34:06) – Hill scored on a free kick from 30 yards out, blasting a ball that zipped into the net to give the Cardinals a two-goal cushion.

Trailing by a pair of goals, Berkeley College was faced with the tall task of attempting to come back against a goaltender that ranked seventh in the Nation in saves-per-contest, Sarah Hilaire. Unfortunately for the Knights, they were unable to score, as Hilaire made four saves and posted a shutout, her third of the 2015 campaign.

Despite the loss for Berkeley College, Ohrberg made six saves on the night.

The Cardinals out-shot the Knights by a count of 15-5.

The Knights will return to action on Sunday afternoon, as Berkeley will take to the road to battle SUNY-ESF in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest. Start-time is scheduled for 3:00pm.
