Women's tennis' Ceren Aksoy and Maria Avila bag Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors

The Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners for the period of Monday, October 19 through Sunday, October 25, and Berkeley College's women's tennis team was well represented. Standout Ceren Aksoy was tabbed as the Player of the Week, while Maria Avila was selected as the conference's top rookie.

Aksoy went undefeated on the week in four matches at No. 1/2 singles and No. 1 doubles. The freshman led the Knights to an unblemished 2-0 week, as the Knights clinched their first HVIAC regular season title in their history. Avila dropped a total of four games as she went undefeated in her No. 1/2 singles matches and No. 1 doubles matches. Playing at the No. 1 singles position in the league match against New Rochelle, Avila secured a 10-2 victory. Following the announcement of the awards, Berkeley College Head Coach David Eddy gave his thoughts.

"Ceren and Maria have done a tremendous job of leading by example this season," Eddy said. "They have great passion for the game of tennis, and it shows in their preparation, determination, and execution. Their performances have helped us clinch the HVIAC regular season title in just our second year of existence, and later this week we'll look to solidify our first-ever conference crown. I'm very proud of both of team."

Berkeley College's women's tennis squad will shoot for a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference crown this week, as the No. 1 seeded Knights will battle the No. 4 seeded Warriors of Vaughn College in the conference semifinals this Thursday at Queens College at 4:00pm. Should Berkeley win, it would advance to the finals, which would take place on Saturday at 1:00pm against No. 2 seeded Pratt Institute.
