Women's tennis team defeated by conference foe College of New Rochelle on Sunday afternoon

The Berkeley College women's tennis team dropped a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Blue Angels of the College of New Rochelle by a score of 7-2. The match took place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. With the loss, the Knights dropped to 0-5 on the season (0-2 HVIAC), while the Blue Angels improved their record to 2-7 on the year (1-2 league play).

At No. 1 doubles, it was New Rochelle's combination of Chloe Wang and Jhosalie Danseco defeating Berkeley's Fanny Farling and Kyle Cruz by a score of 8-0. The Blue Angels captured the No's 2 and 3 doubles flights by default.

When play switched over to singles, New Rochelle captured five of the six flights to account for the 7-2 final score. The Blue Angels picked up a win at No. 2 singles when Wang silenced Cruz by a score of 10-1. No. 3 singles saw New Rochelle's Gabriela Garcia defeated the Knights' Esly Rodriguez, 10-1. The Blue Angels won the No's 4, 5, and 6 doubles flights by default. Berkeley College's lone singles win came at No. 1, as Harling shutout Nat Somsuwit, 10-0.

The Knights will return to action on Tuesday evening, as Berkeley College will take on Pratt Institute in the semifinals of the 2017 Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament. The match will take place at the Pratt ARC, with a start-time of 8:15pm.
