Men's and women's cross country teams start 2019 seasons by competing in Fred Pavlich Invitational at Bard College

The Berkeley College men's and women's cross country teams started their 2019 campaigns on Saturday, competing in the Fred Pavlich Invitational at Bard College. The meets took place on Bard College's campus in Annadale-on-Hudson, NY. Neither team scored on the day, but Head Coach Michael Lincoln had some encouraging things to say about his student-athletes.

"This year's team is very young, after we graduated nine runners from last year's programs combined," Lincoln said. "We have been bitten a bit by the injury bug this season, but the students that did compete worked very hard and persevered in an impressive way."

On the men's side, Julio Sanchez finished 145th overall in the 8K meet with a time of 35:37, and Carlos Lopez was the next Knight to cross the tape, as he finalized the course in 40:23, a time good for 177th overall. Rounding out the runners for Berkeley College were Jose Morales (188th Overall, 43:30) and Jeremy Jimenez (189th Overall, 43:32).

For the Berkeley women, Monica Hayes was the first Knight to finish, as she completed the 6K course in 35:05 (124th overall). Andrea Gil was next to finish, as she recorded a time of 36:48, and finally, Marcella Valencia crossed the finish line in 36:57, a time good for 136th overall.

The Berkeley College men's and women's cross country teams will return to action on Saturday, October 5, as they'll compete in the Highlander Cross Country Challenge at Branch Brook Park in Newark, NJ. Start-time is scheduled for 11:00am.
